
This is a dark-eyed junco, and they are precious to me. They are only around here in winter, retreating further north or to higher elevations in the summer.
They are flighty in a flock, meaning they like to move away just as you are trying to get a photograph. I patiently waited for this junco to approach me, and I was able to capture the snow around it as it searched for food in the grass.
